Since the bulk of commercial and public communications are often destroyed in a disaster, communications during emergency situations are usually provided by licensed Amateur Radio operators. They have a robust network and train often to support this activity. This section provides information used by Navarre CERT as well as information about the Navarre CERT Amateur Radio Club or NCARC. Santa Rosa County, Okaloosa County, and Escambia County Emergency Operation Centers each have an section set up with Amateur Radio equipment and licensed volunteers to handle emergency communication. One licensed radio operator in each county is designated as the county Emergency Communications Coordinator (EC). Amateur radio includes voice communications, digital, video, satellite, moon-bounce, and many other modes and interests in this great hobby. Learning Morse code is no longer a requirement! Don't forget about the weekly Auxiliary Communications Net that meets each Tuesday evening at 2000 hours (8:00pm) on the 146.700 Milton EOC repeater. This is a great opportunity to test out your radio and practice checking into a controlled radio net. |
FIELD DAY 2010The ARRL Field Day was a lot of fun. Click on the "Club News" link to read more! Florida QSO PartyWe had a great time participating in the Florida QSO Party on Saturday, April 24. Jim Dunbar, K4PV, came down from Milton to assist our club. For those who weren't there, Jim is an excellent contester and offered considerable and valuable advice to the few NCARC members who were there. We look forward to his participation and assistance in Field Day.
CONTEST NUMBERS: For more information on upcoming events or the club, contact Steve W4SJV, or Don N4DGN via email or on the CERT repeater. |
